Present perfect + until now

Greetings, everyone!

I've tried not to let anyone in until now.

Might we as well say I'd tried since we have until now at the end? What allows us to use present perfect together with until now?

spinyman What allows us to use present perfect together with until now? Hi, I've tried not to let anyone in until now (= up to now). You are talking about an action that took place in the past and still has a connection with the present time.

Hi,

I've tried not to let anyone in until now (= up to now).

You are talking about an action that took place in the past and still has a connection with the present time.

That's exactly where we need to use the present perfect tense.

But here:

I hadn't thought of that until now was a more acceptable option. So, when else do we use past perfect without adding before I did something else?

Yes, I hadn't thought of that. You can enter the link you provided, and see a lot of related examples.
