Present Perfect, Tom has been hospitalized for 10 days.

Hi teachers,

When you hear this sentence, "Tom has been hospitalized for 10 days", do you think Tom is still in a hospital?

Can I say "Tom was hospitalized for 10 days." when I want to express the fact Tom was hospitalized for 10 days sometime in the past but not anymore.

Thank you.
