Present perfect tense vs. Simple past tense
Hello,
Many kinds thanks in advance for anyone who can explain to me which of the following sentences is correct?:
Throughout my educational and professional experiences, I have developed an interest in researching a multitude of cultures.
Throughout my educational and professional experiences, I developed an interest in researching a multitude of cultures.
I always get stuck with whether or not to use the present perfect tense or simple past. I know that the ppt (present perfect tense) is used for statements that started in the past and continue today, general in nature or indicative of something that just happened (e.g. "He has just left.). As such, I don't know how the above sentences follow the aforementioned rules.

throughout indicates continuation over a period of time, and presumably you still have the interests you developed, so I say present perfect. No question. You certainly don't want to give the impression that you developed (simple past) these interests and then dropped them.

throughout indicates continuation over a period of time, and presumably you still have the interests you developed, so I say present perfect. No question.
