Present perfect tense

I just started work yesterday and my friends are asking what I've been doing at work: I reply with:

I wasn't really that busy today because it was my first day at work. Or

I haven't been that busy today because it was my first day at work.

Any other suggestions please?

Have you returned home from work already when they ask?

If so, there is a time gap between finishing your first day and their asking the question. In this case you don't use I haven't been that busy. Use I wasn't.
