Present Perfect simple or Continuous

Hi, I've come across an exercise and can not be sure whether simple or continuous is appropriate/better in the blanks. I've completed with my choices.
  1. 1.    Good morning Mr President. We regret telling you this but several UFOs _have attacked_______ (attack)  the moon and they ______’ve announced____ (announce) through several signals that they are now aiming at the earth.
2.  My wife has been very busy, she needs a break I believe. She ____has been making_________ (make) terrible mistakes at work recently.

thanks,

Your earlier answer is "have attacked", so, to be consistent, I would use "have announced".

BTW, the second 'thanks' should be capitalised.
