Present Perfect Simple

"as soon as I have finished reading the first sentence"
I saw this forms many times.
I'd like to understand why present perfect simple is used here and not present simple.

"as soon as" refers to the present(simple) time, so why is perfect used here?

It depends on what you want to convey: As soon as you have finished the book pass it to Arun for he wants it badly. Perfect tense is mainly used to show compeletion of an act. In the example above only if one acts is completed can the other be possibe.

The other clause is an action that will soon follow the present perfect clause:

as soon as I have finished reading the first sentence.

The comment occurs in the future, and the reading occurs either now or in the future, but in either case, the reading occurs in the past of the comment. This use of the present perfect is called the 'past-in-the-future' use.
