Present perfect & present perfect progressive

Since I got home, David ___ online games.

(A) has played (B) played (C) was playing (D) will play

The answer is option A. But I think none of the options is correct.

Option A is the answer.

The sentence defines a time in the past (the time at which I arrived home). That time was the start of the action of David's playing. The adverb "since" also means that the action is still occurring. So present perfect (A) is the best option for the verb tense.

If I change the adverb:

When I got home, David ___ online games.

Hmm. I too prefer "has been playing". But A is the closest choice to that preference.

I would say that 'has been playing' is required to fill in the blank. Maybe there was a typo.
