Present perfect or simple past with always?

Hello,

which tense with "always" is correct: "He hasn`t always taught German" or "He didn`t always teach German"?

Thank you.

Always often seems more appropriate to the present perfect aspect, but it can occur with any tense. I always ate cereal when I was young I will always love you. etc.
