Present perfect or past simple tense?

Hi all,

I have come across two fill in the blanks questions, which I become very suspicious about. All comments are appreciated.

1. Research 4____has shown_________ (show) that this trend 5____has managed____________________ (manage) to change some executives’ lives.

2. In recent years, there 6____has been____________________ (be) a rapid increase in the number of people who 7____has started__________ (start) consulting “life coaches”.

In the second parts of these sentences I used present perfect. However, I'm not sure if they are correct. Can we use past simple in these second parts of the sentences?

thanks in advance

Yes, they are. In #2, 'people' demands the plural 'have started'.
