Present Perfect or Past Simple...

I have a question related to present perfect and past simple.
Which of the following sentence is correct?
1) During my career I have worked on papers that have been published.
2) During my career I have worked on papers that were published

Alternatively, "During my career, I worked on papers that have been published."

This sounds like the papers were published and then you worked on them. You worked on already published papers. I don't think you mean this. You could say "that were subsequently published" to avoid this problem.
