Present perfect or past perfect!

Hi,

' I have just watched a Tv programme in a series about British authors. There were two episodes already-this one was the third. Each episode is about a different writer. This one discussed the writer Jane Austen because I have enjoyed/had enjoyed reading Jane Austen's novels for many years. It started with information about her life and upbringing...'

I need to know if the past perfect or the present perfect should be used ,and why?

Thanks.

Well, the time frame calls for the present perfect, but I don't see how because fits in the sentence. You probably want something like: this one discussed the writer Jane Austen, whose novels I have enjoyed reading for many years.

If the past perfect had been used, would that have meant that reading Jane Austen stopped before watching that programme .

Thanks.

Yes, but long before the program. You want the present perfect here.
