Present Perfect - Continuous

Hi,

I have this exercise:

My friends (have told , have been telling) me things about our mutual friend David. Every day I hear something new that amazes me.

Tha book says that the answer is- "have told", but according to the 'Present Perfect Continuous' rules it's suppose to be "have been telling", isn't it?
