Present perfect - clarification

Hi,
According to the Wikipedia entry on the present perfect,
"He has produced 10 plays" (he's still alive and professionally active)
"He produced 10 plays" (he is either dead or no longer professionally active)

Well, it's Wikipedia, they have knowledgeable people . . . but I think it's a bit restrictive. I think in Am. English at least it is also correct to say "he produced 10 plays" even if he is still alive and professionally active. Or am I wrong?

  • Possibly, but the context would have to make that clear; otherwise, I would expect him to be dead, and I am an AmE speaker.
