Present perfect and the present perfect progressive tenses.

Hi

I have a problem. could you please tell me which one is correct?

A: Would you like a cigarette? / Cigarette?
B. No, thanks. I gave it up. I haven't been smoking for years.

or

A: Would you like a cigarette? / Cigarette?
B. No, thanks. I gave it up. I haven't smoked for years.

I'd say I haven't smoked in years.

To me haven't been smoking suggests continuous smoking without stopping.

— I smell smoke. Who's been smoking in here?
— Not me. I haven't been smoking.
