Grammar

Present perfect and since

Hello!
How is it that in Sinead O'connor's famous song Nothing Compares to You , you can hear "i go out every night and sleep all day since you took your love away". I would be more inclined to write "i've been going out every night... since you took your love away".The only reason i've found so far , but unsatisfactory as far as i'm concerned, is that "since " could be in that sense a synonym for "because".
I'm loking forward for your answer!
Thanks,
ALEKS

The key word here is "song". Don't expect the words in songs to conform exactly to the rules of grammar. Sometimes the words have to be changed from their normal, idiomatic, grammatical forms so that they will fit the notes of the song.
