present perfect and past simple

Hello teacher

I don't understand the use of past simple in this sentence:
Every now and then we have gone into a studio and recorded some songs, just to see what they sounded like on tape never thinking they'd end up on a cd.

why is it "sounded "?. In the beginning of the sentence it is written now and then , I would have chosen present perfect because it is still happening

thanks

I would say, use simple present (if you still go there) in both sections of the sentence.

Hi,

The use of the present perfect and simple past are incorrect. You are right in saying the simple present would be needed here, because the sentence is talking about a habitual action in the present.

But as it began in the past but continues in the present , it is possible to use present simple,?!!!

I am getting confused
