Present perfect and past simple

Do I always have to use perfect tense when I use words like already and still?

"still have not found"

or "still did not find"

and so it goes

Top answer

No - many different tenses can be used: Everyone was already/still there when I arrived. (past) In 2008, he was already showing the symptoms of the disease. (past progressive) The water is still in the glass.
