Present Perfect

"My dearest teacher, my continuing studies of pony magic have led me to discover that we are on the precipice of disaster."

I reckon the reason why present perfect is chosen in the sentence is that the discover has some relationship with the present situation(e.g I'm telling it to the princess now). Is my thought right? Thanks in advance!

Linking the past to the present and I am agreeing on your thought as what I'd learned.
