Present perfect

I was here a few months ago during the summer, and made a lot of new friends. We('ve) kept in touch, so that's why I'm back here visiting them.

Should it be present perfect or past tense? And are my sentences very basic and elementary writing? Do adult native speakers actually write like I do?

Thank you!

Although, I'm not a native speaker, and can't really comment on the last question you posed in your post above, I'm taking a stab at this. "We have kept in touch" seems more appropriate to me in this context. Moreover, the sentence you wrote above is quite OK.

  • Using simple language is always good.

That's not my point at all! Please continue to try to help, I'm just afraid after you get done with them, native English checkers won't look at it anymore, as they have already been ignoring my posts. My memory is very bad, and I believe that my brain is in the early stages o

It's ok; I completely understand your concern. Believe you me, I didn't take it the other way.

I'd reply only after the natives have had a look at your posts.

Both tenses are possible but, for speakers of BrE at least, the present perfect is more likely

Your sentences are natural.
