Present perfect

Hi,

ex) He has lived in L.A. for three years.

A: There is a time span three years ago to now, and at every point in that time span, he lived in L.A.
B: There is a time span from some point in the past to now, and at some point during that time span, he lived in L.A. for three years.

Q) I know reading A is the one that is in every grammar book. I'd like to know reading B is also possible.

Thank you.

Hi, Yes, B is possible, although one would often use other words to express that meaning. The context would typically make the intended meaning clear. Clive

Thank you for your reply, Clive.

How would you express it differently then? I'd appreciate your answer one more time.
