Present perfect

I left school 8 years ago.

I have left school for now.

Would you say that the second sentence is correct even if my leaving school isn't recent?

Top answer

The sentence might be considered technically correct as it is possible that you could start attending school again. It sounds rather unnatural to my ear, though, and I don't think a native speaker would use it. I, a nonnative speaker, might say: I'm not pursuing any studies now.
