Present Perfect

Hi! I have a question about Present Perfect Tense.

I came across a sentence:" How often have you consumed alcohol? "Why is a Present Perfect here? We usually use a Present Simple, like “How often do you consume alcohol?”

Thank you.

I agree with you, olga. " as the question as well. Perhaps something had changed - the person is in the hospital, and clearly is not drinking right now, so the doctor is asking about past habits up until the time of his admission?

  • I agree with you, olga.
  • " as the question as well.
