Present participle construction

I have to link the following sentence, using the present participle construction.

I saw that Kevin was very busy. I offered to collect the mail for him.

I gave as answer: Sawing that Kevin was very busy, I offered to collect the mail for him.

This answer seems to be fault. But i dont know what is wrong about it.

Anyone can guide me in this.
