Present Participle

I've seen people writing the participle of words like -in instead of -ing is it still correct?

It's only correct if you are writing direct speech, and wish to show that the speaker did not pronounce the 'g' eg Tom said "I'm goin' to the library". Note that the dropped 'g' is replaced by an apostrophe.
