What is 'preseason sale'?

Do we have 'postseason sale'? Do we call 'postseason sale' 'clearance sale'?

I can't say I've heard "preseason sale" before. I would assume that it's simply a sale featuring certain goods which takes place before said goods are usually avaible for purchase. Likewise, I've heard "postseason sale", but would assume it's a sale that takes place after the usual time period for selling these hypothetical goods has ended.

  • A "clearance sale" (a term I am familiar with) is similar, but in this case the price of the goods is marked down to make way for new products, rather than because a certain 'season' has ended.

Yes, in Japan the department stores have preseason sales (before the e.g. spring fashion season), postseason sales, clearance sales, and the omnipresent bargain sales for no reason at all-- and usually for tremendous savings of 5-10 percent!

I went to Macy's today. I saw the sign 'preseason sale' all over the store including the 'watch section'. Does anyone wear watches based on different seasons? I don't; do you?
