Prescriptive: on hypenate or not to hyphenate

Apparently some prescriptivists all calling for a standardization on either "e-mail" or "email". Have they got nothing better to think on? Why should it matter which we use, or why can't we standardize both?

Email is a word that belongs to the interwebz, so maybe we should spell it EmAiL, and the plural would be EmAiLz. CaPiTaLiZaTiOn Iz ImPoRtAnT ^^
