Grammar

preposterous length

One thing that tells us the simple past tense is correct, is that those who advocate otherwise, at preposterous length, cannot even avoid elementary grammatical blunders in their own writings.

I can't understand this sentence though I know the meaning of every word in this sentence. Particularly the use of comma confuses me.

Could you rephrase in in a simple way?

Thank you Clive.
Clive Can you understand now, or do you need more help?

No, still I can't understand it. As I told you, the use of "comma" confuses me.

I will be glad if you rephrase the whole sentence by getting rid of most of the commas.

The simple past tense is correct. People who say it is incorrect often make simple grammar
