Preposition+verb/noun/adjective

Hi guys im newbie here , ive been enlarging my vocabulary and improving my listening skills during quarantine . Watching some shows , movies i noticed some kinda words like uphold uptight overcome overdue . And i wanna know if theres a way to easily understand what they mean , and what are they called in grammar or slang.
