Prepositions: which one???

i did this work book page and it said to put " at the weekends" but i no that it sounds and makes more sense if you put " on the weekends".

Example:
at= Sam wanted to know if you had anything special going at the weekend.
on= Sam wanted to n ow if you had anything special on the weekend.

It sounds better with "on".
