Prepositions Dilemma

My sister and I had a heated discussion on which preposition should we use in the following sentence: She bought that pair of shoes __ 20 dollars. We were wondering which of these prepositions is more accurate and suitable, 'for', 'at' or 'with', I personally thought for would be the most appropriate but I'm really not sure about it. Any help would be appreciated!

Top answer

I would go with For too, although you could make the others work by tweaking the sentence. She bought that pair of shoes for 20 dollars. She bought that pair of shoes with the 20 dollars I gave her.

  • I would go with For too, although you could make the others work by tweaking the sentence.
  • She bought that pair of shoes for 20 dollars.
  • She bought that pair of shoes with the 20 dollars I gave her.
  • She bought that pair of shoes at a price of 20 dollars.

For is correct. If you pay extremely little for something, you can say: I bought it for a song.
