Prepositions

Is some words must followed by certain prepositions? What are they?

Top answer

Do you mean words that must always be followed by a particular preposition every time they are used, in whatever situation? These are rare. There may be one or two fixed idioms incorporating words that are obsolete or unused outside the idiom.

  • On the other hand, if you are simply talking about "word + preposition" combinations where a certain preposition is essential to create a specific meaning, then there are thousands.
  • Far too many to list here.

The only thing I can think of is phrasal verbs. These are a combination of a verb followed by a preposition (or two). The preposition changes the meaning of the verb. There are hundreds of such verbs.

I think I couldn't understand this clearly. In book it writen as
Phrase Propositions:Group of words used with the force of a single preposition.
examples

according to
agreeably to
along with etc.,

Is that mean should we must use same prepositions after that words?

If you want that meaning, yes.

"according" is actually a good example of a word that is almost always followed by the same preposition, "to". The word "according" is not much used otherwise (though it is not impossible).
