1. ''my place is near xyz city" OK (You don't need it. near to is not usually used before the name of the place.)

2. "I am free on Sunday, I be at office for the rest of the week . For is necessary here, though it is avoided in speech.

Please understand that we do not consider any question stupid, especially if it deals with those darned prepositions!

"I am free on Sunday, I be at office for the rest of the week ."

"I am free on Sunday, I will be at office for the rest of the week." (no space between week and full stop)

This is a run-on sentence. You need a period after Sunday. You could also keep the comma and begin the next clause with 'but I will be at....'

Good catch, Philip! I didn't notice it was a comma.

My place is near New York City. No preposition there. My place is close to the train station.
