Can I say,

The rat ran across / along / through the room and jumped onto me. (across, why?)

Can you see a tiger hiding among / behind / in the bushes? (among, why?)

I don;t know why do we say,

(i) "ran across" instead of " ran through" the room.

(ii) "hiding among" instead of "hiding in / behind" the bushes.
