Prepositional Phrase

Beatrix Potter, in her book illustrations, carefully coordinating them with her narratives, capitalized on her keen observation and love of the natural world.

in her book illustrations is in parenthesis and my understanding is that we should be able to remove the content within parenthesis without impacting the meaning of the sentence. However, "them" has no reference if in her illustrations is removed. Thus we can't take above sentence as a good one....

Please lemme know whether my understanding is correct and if it can be applied to all the cases?

Thanks

  • That doesn't seem a reasonable principle.
  • Commas can be used to set off a group of words for reasons other than that the words are unimportant or that they do not contribute to the meaning of the sentence.
