Preposition usage

I have the "in vs at" confusion and would be grateful if somebody could please clarify them Emotion: smile

1) I paid my fees in/at the beginning of the semester.

2) The only modifications in the draft are the most recent changes.

1) I paid my fees at the beginning of the semester. (At that point in time. 'In the beginning' is somewhat durational, a length of time.)

2) The only modifications in/to the draft are the most recent changes.

Thanks MM! Can I say "I paid my fees in the beginning of the semester (i.e. sometime in the first month) if I don't remember the day/date on which I paid my fees"?
