Preposition (to/onto)..

Dear all,

While writing essays, the most important thing we struggle with is the use of correct preposition. Can you make some suggestions on mastering right prepositions at right place. It would be better if the forum provides a dedicated space to remove confusions about prepositions. I have confusion about the following....

Are both of the following two sentences correct?

1.Social aspeccts of the matter are shifting to a newer dimension.
2.Social aspects of the matter are shifting onto a newer dimension.

Thanks!

Hello, IEEE. Frankly, there are just too many prepositions, too many meanings, and too many collocations to put them all into any kind of classified order. They are something you need to learn case by case.

  • I can tell you, however, that it is useful for you to learn them as collocations together with their attendant verb or adjective – look at, listen to, unhappy about, eager for , etc – rather than as isolated words.
  • As for your sentences: only #1 is correct.
