Preposition question?

Hi teachers

Two thousand years ago a storm drove a Roman ship ____a sheer rock wall _____ the north side of the remote Greek island of Antikythera.

A) across / on
B) above / in
C) towards / at
D) against / on
E) with / on

If you ask me, I would choose both A and D but there is only one correct answer. Which option should I choose?

Thanks....

Top answer

Across would indicate that the ship went beyond the wall. Against means that the ship stopped there. So, D) is correct.

  • Across would indicate that the ship went beyond the wall.
  • Against means that the ship stopped there.
