Preposition problem

Please tell me if the presition used here's correct:
"I braked so hard for a car that rushed out of nowhere that my knees crushed onto the front board of the driver's seat."
Thank you so much.

it seems to me that is incorrect. my dictionary says onto refers to :"to a place/position on" I guess the preposition you need is "into"
