preposition on the paper / in the paper

I am a bit confused with in and on.
Paper and newspaper, do I say 'an article on the paper' or 'in the paper'? I am sure the following is correct 'there is an article about myself on page 10', but not sure whether I can say 'There is an article about myself on the paper' too. I see 'in the paper' more often.
