"In" is required in your sentence. It is also required in: "I found a new job to put her in." That is, any statement where you put her in "a job," requires "in." However, the following is okay, since here "place" does not mean "job" (it could mean "department," or "section," etc., but not "job"):

I found a new place to put her.
