Preposition

Can anyone help me?

My friend and I were playing a game, and I suddenly got the character I want, and told him "hey, I got my favorite character on/in step 7."

Which preposition is correct here?

Thanks in advance!

The expected duration is the factor to consider.

"In" implies a length of time, whereas "on" is more about relative position.

Exs: In class, a teacher might say you are "on number 5," "on page 6," but "in Chapter 7."

Either can be used. The governing factor here might be euphony. "On" is easier to pronounce than "in," in the sentence, "...I got my favorite character ____ step 7.", when it is said loudly and excitedly."
