If I got a call while I was in a meeting, I would say that I was in a meeting.

CalifJimIf I got a call while I was in a meeting, I would say that I was in a meeting. ______For some reason, "in" suggests to me that I am somehow participating in the meeting; "at" suggests that I have the role of an observer. Not everyone will necessarily feel the same.CJ

I meant that I agree that it can be either "at/in a/the meeting". I am not entirely sure about the distinction that CJ makes between the two prepositions (although CJ is careful enough not to lay claim to the universality of this distinction), but I find it an interesting enough explanation.
