preposition

the bridge is ---------------- the river
(across,through,on,above)
i wrote the answer as "the bridge is across the river"
But my teacher said it cant be across the river neither it can be on the river or above the river.....i will be printing your answers so that i can show her this conversations...thank you for getting involved

Honestly, though, I would most likely use "across" given those options. It's certainly not "through" and "on" suggests that the bridge is more of a dock-like structure. I suppose "above" would technically be correct, but it's not commonly used in that context.
