Preposition

Hello,

1. New Zealand is the mecca for nature lovers.

The preposition relates its complement to the other part of the sentence. This is the definition of the preposition given in my book.

My question is that the complement of the preposition 'for' in the above sentence connects to which part of the sentence.

Does it connect 'Mecca' or 'New Zealand' ?

How to make such decision?

Could anyone here explain it?

Thanks.

Hello,

The complement of the preposition is a noun or a pronoun or wh-clause or gerund.

Do the adverbs also the complement of the preposition?

e.g

1. He came from abroad.

Is 'abroad' an adverb or a noun here?

The same for the 'Home' e.g

2. He is at home.

Does 'home' here an adverb or a noun?

Thanks.

I would call them noun objects/complements of their respective prepositions. The lexicographers say I can do that.
