Preposition

I always trouble about how to use preposition. For example, move this line under others. I don't know exactly whether it is "under" or "below" or "down"
Plz give me a tip for using it correctly. Thanks

With respect to placement or position, under and below are usually interchangeable. That is to say, either will work for most applications, especially when referring to the placement of words or lines in a written page. We also use "beneath" for similar purposes.

  • Part of the confusion might come from using the verb 'move' when the verb 'place' might better suit the need.
  • "Place line six under (below, beneath) line twelve," instructs to move line six to a place beneath (below, under) line twelve.
