Preposition

He died of cancer. He died from cancer. Which is correct?

To die OF a disease seems to be the most common preposition. I just opened my (American) newspaper and read: died of cancer .... died of congestive heart failure....

To die OF a disease seems to be the most common preposition. I just opened my (American) newspaper and read: died of cancer .... died of old age and a brain tumor....died of congestive heart failure....

He died of cancer is correct.

When you name the disease, use "of."

But when describing the cause, "from" is also common.

He died from/of a bullet through the brain.
