Preposition

I need help explaining, the difference between:
"Do you ever go TO THE movies?"
AND
"I usually listen TO music."

How do I know when to use TO THE or just TO in a sentence?

would "I listen to the music" be correct?

Thank you for your time.

'Do you ever go to the movies' and 'do you ever go to movies' are both possible, with the first representing the institution or facility, and the second representing the individual entertainments/performances. ' Music does not fit into this concept-- it is an (uncountable) art form, so only 'I usually listen to music' is correct. '
