Preparing/having prepared?

Please look at the sentence:

The professor entered the room and seated himself in a chair, ______ to answer questions.

My exercise book told me that the best answer is "preparing", but I am just wondering if the following phrasings can fit in the sentence?

prepared?having prepared?being prepared?

Thank you in advance.

Thank you. But could you explain the difference between these versions? My exercise book says only "preparing" is correct.

The professor entered the room and seated himself in a chair, preparing to answer questions. He was preparing while he entered and seated himself.

The professor entered the room and seated himself in a chair, having prepared to answer questions.

Clive This describes him at the time he entered and seated himself...
Thank you very much for your interpretation. But has the latter part of the sentence been left out? What did you want to say in the latter part?

Assume these times are accurate.
He entered and sat down at 4pm.
having prepared means he completed the act of preparing at 2pm.
being prepared means he was ready to answer questions at 4pm.
