Ok, I am preparing a job interview in english. So I tried to write down what I intend to say during the interview (description of my background, personality ...). Would you please help me to improve it ? Here is what I 've already written :
I have 5 years experience in IT system & network management. I graduated in 2001 with a french HND equivalent in IT. Upon graduation I entered COMPANY_NAME, an international company specialised in outsourcing, consulting and professional services. First, I was trained to unix/linux/oracle administration during 4 months in Paris. Then I started to work at COMPANY_NAME, where I was in charge of a dozen of windows/UNIX servers. I would say it was “level 1” administration : managing users / Access rights, checking and handling disk spaces, updating technical documentations. In order to make day to day administration faster and easier, I wrote several scripts : that allowed me to improve my scripting skills.
After one year, my boss offered me the opportunity to work at COMPANY_NAME, a French financial group, as a production support analyst, what I accepted with enthusiasm. I was part of a team of 3 persons, responsible for the specification, design, and integration of the daily job scheduling under Unix/Oracle using Dollar Universe. More precisely, every day, fresh data from all COMPANY_NAME’s agencies were sent to us in order to be integrated in different databases (Data Warehouse, Siebel). Our job was to ensure the successful integration of these data.
I stayed 1 year there then I decided to resign from COMPANY_NAME. I quit the job because I had family's diffculties that constrained me to come back to TOWN_NAME for a while.
I quickly found a system administrator position at COMPANY_NAME, near TOWN_NAME City. Right before starting to work there, I was trained to Unix AIX and TSM administration at IBM Training Center in Paris. My duty was to ensure the availabitlity of all systems (servers, pc, network). I was also in charge of the TSM backup environment administration and maintenance. Whereas it was not a real 24hours production environment, a single outage during the day meant thousands of euros in lost revenue. I have also dealt with every phase of systems management and integration, from specification, to negotiating purchases, to builds and installs, configuration, and ongoing maintenance and upgrades. I got used to deal with tight plannings and deadlines. If there was something technical that needed to be dealt with – system, network, phone, wiring, PCs, office equipment, I was the man.
I am comfortable with being given only the most general direction to come up with a solution. I am not specialise in a particular product. I have some knowledge in many different areas, I am flexible. I have a positive attitude, and I strive to be my best, I am enthusiastic and flexible. In the past, I proved that I could become comfortable with using new technologies in a short period.
I used to be fluent in English, but today I am aware that it is far from perfect. Anyway, I know that with a bit of practice I can reach a good level.
THANKS A LOT IN ADVANCE ! Kind Regards.
