Prepare the class / for the class

I will prepare the test VS. I will prepare for the test.

I know the difference between them.

I can say 'prepare the test' as a teacher and 'prepare for the test' as a student, right?

And then, I was wondering which one is correct, 'prepare the class' or 'prepare for the class'?

When I am a teacher, which one is correct?

Thank you so much as usual in advance.
